A Domestic Violence Victim Support Organization

Speaking Up for Victims and their Pets

On February 14, 2022 Denise Henton, one of our clients, and others in the field of supporting victims of domestic violence were interviewed by Gabrielle Enright of WHIO. They discussed how abusers leverage pets to control their victims, but even when the victim is able to break free and bring their pet they continue to be victimized as very few places allow them to stay with their pets.

"Every year, more than 10 million Americans experience domestic violence. Many of those victims have pets and are forced to make a heartbreaking choice if they leave their abusive relationship.

The I-Team learned that only 15 percent of domestic violence shelters nationwide are pet friendly and about half of all domestic violence victims will delay leaving their abuser if their pet can’t go with them."
